Why, hello there!

I’m Emma, a 30-year-old writer and furniture designer living in Melbourne with my woodworker Manfriend. I surround myself with designy things, garage sales, tools, and magazines.

The Manfriend and I like building houses and making people. Together, we have a furniture and interior design company called GRATTON. We have renovated three houses in the past six years: an art deco home in Northcote, a hideous fixer-upper in Coburg and a rundown dump in Brunswick. We are currently working on our dream home: Yarra Yarra, aka the Arnold House, a 1963 Robin Boyd modernist marvel in my hometown of Warrandyte.

We also build people: Archer was born in 2012 and Jethro was born in 2014. They are flippin’ awesome.

I am also co-host of the podcast for multitasking parents, The New Normal, and the editor of the Creative Women’s Circle blog. My professional writing page is here.

I write about building, reading, making things and mothering.
